One of my old salsa friends wrote that he subscribes to my newsletter because it’s “wonderful to observe your evolution on your life journey.”
May today’s super short email not disappoint!
(And may I prove to myself that yes, I am in fact capable of writing you a super short email letter 💌🪶!)
Not burying the lede… I got a new job…
Since my last post in which I confessed my sincere icks and cringes about ChatGPT and AI (the post that also initiated my first paid newsletter subscriber), I was contacted the next day by a lead who found my website through a ChatGPT search (the irony)...
After two rounds of interviews with the founder of a digital self-discovery platform with a global client base in more than 140 countries, I was offered the job of Content Director and have accepted.
I'll be leading creation and evolution of all written content, acting as a steward of the brand's voice, message, and soul-aligned mission. I'll also be collaborating cross-functionally with SEO, development, design and marketing teams for this wellness and spirituality startup. It'll be my first time embracing a fully remote full-time job to the tune of 40 hours a week. I start on Thursday!
As
, a fun copywriter I follow, writes in Changing Careers When You’re Middle-Aged is Hard Because You Feel Like an Idiot…Whatever you have done thus far in your life, is a gift. Use it. 🎁
It would be easy to imagine that you’re “throwing it all away” and “starting over,” but instead of picturing your career like a dry erase board you just wiped over with Clorox, try picturing it like a growing art board—one with infinite scroll. Everything you’ve done up to this point counts. Everything goes on your life’s resume. Everything stays on the board. And everything helps you in the future. Everything you have done??? Literally, everything??? Is an advantage. A secret weapon. A life-long superpower. Imagine how far ahead of the curve you will be in your new career, knowing what you DO know. Things that others don’t know. If you used to work in email marketing, just think about how bombass your email marketing will be. (And thus, put you far ahead of the game.) If you used to work as a journalist, just think about how much PR you’ll be able to get for yourself. If you used to work as a graphic designer, just think about how beautiful your new brand will be. You are not far behind—you are actually quite far ahead. You just didn’t see it that way. 🙂So no, you’re not starting from scratch. You’re starting from experience. From taste. From wisdom. From gut-checks, gut-punches, and guts—period.
And that makes you unstoppable.
Because when someone starts something new in their twenties, it’s called ambition.
When someone starts something new in their forties? That’s called conviction. You’re not reinventing yourself because you failed. You’re reinventing yourself because you evolved.
My family was here…
With my beloved mom and brother traipsing through Spain and Andalucía for the first time this month, I´ve naturally allowed a lovely pause with them in this transition to a new work life.
We got to some classics… The feria of Jerez, hitting up Ronda by train, posing with Picasso in Málaga, clinking glasses at the chiringuitos of Tarifa and locally. And all while they had their fixations. For my mother and cuñado, that involved personal training with a local trainer. For my brother, that involved his art practice.
I danced.
My good linense friend Amara and I completed a Sevillanas workshop. (These Sevillanas aren´t going anywhere. Maybe some year I´ll bust them out at the feria.) My bulerías class prepares for its fin del curso next month with staging for the set choreography.
What else? Teasers and sneak peeks.
My friend Ariel is a natural-born copywriter and I can’t wait to preview her website design I did for her earlier this month, for her rebrand. You know I have my heart in websites for holistic service providers. We’re just waiting on the email welcome automation set-up, connecting the domain, and some diagnostics before the site goes live. Perhaps then, I can explain a little why I partner with the design and development agency that I do. Grateful to Ariel for being a beta client for this pilot project.
Okay, I’ll spill the tea. I’m turning 40 this year and throwing a party. 🥳💜🥂💫✨🍾 And I have a 40-day portal planned, ending on my birthday, with collaborations in the celebration mix. Mark your calendars for the start on July 28.
In June we’ll be back to the podcast schedule, 1x/month going forward. We will start fresh with the 🌕June 11 guest—a human design expert! (That’s right, I’m looking at you HD fans out there! You know who you are!!) Holler if you have questions for her. I’ve long wanted to do a human design episode, and I’m so grateful that my sacral 6/2 generator friend sent me the invitation when the human design strategist appeared.
Until next time, I remain…
Yours,

What a fitting role Shayna!! I’m delighted for you — congrats!
